Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our premium aluminum pergolas

Product & Features

What materials are Pergola Cave pergolas made from?

Our pergolas are built from aluminum with a powder-coated finish, so they won't rust or rot and need minimal maintenance compared to wood.

What type of louver system do your pergolas have?

Our manual pergolas use a hand-crank louver system, with no electricity or wiring required. The louvers turn on self-lubricating stainless steel components rated for 5+ years of daily adjustment. Our motorized models add remote and app control, and weather sensors are available for both.

What is a bioclimatic pergola?

A bioclimatic pergola has adjustable louvers that rotate to control sunlight, shade, and ventilation: angle them to filter sun, open them fully for a breeze, or close them to block rain.

How do adjustable pergolas work?

The roof is made of louvers that rotate together 0–135Β°, by hand crank on our manual models or by remote and app on our motorized models. Adjust them to control sunlight, shade, and airflow, or close them fully for rain.

Can I customize the size and color of my pergola?

Yes. Our stock sizes run from 10'Γ—6.5' to 13'Γ—20'. The Sunkisser SK1 comes in 10'Γ—6.5', 10'Γ—10', 10'Γ—13', and 13'Γ—13', and the Sunkisser 200 comes in 13'Γ—16' and 13'Γ—20' (plus 10'Γ—13' on the motorized model). Stock colors are Anthracite, Black, and White. Custom sizes and colors are available by quote. Add-ons include LED lighting, privacy blinds, and infrared heaters.

How much weight can a pergola support?

Our pergolas are rated for winds up to 90 mph and snow loads up to 31 lbs per square foot. For heavier attachments, contact us before installing.

How much does an aluminum pergola cost in Los Angeles?

Our Sunkisser SK1 Manual Pergola starts at $5,199 for the 10'Γ—6.5' size, up to $9,199 for 13'Γ—13'. Sunkisser 200 models, including motorized, run from $11,199 to $15,499. Professional installation and accessories (heaters, LEDs, blinds) are available separately. Financing is available.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Financing is available through HFS Home Improvement Loans. Checking your options takes about a minute and uses a soft credit check, so it won't affect your credit score. If you're conditionally approved, you'll see your loan terms within 24 hours, and approved funds go directly to your checking account. Not everyone will qualify. Call us at (818) 213-2111 to get started.

Do you price match?

Yes. If you find the same pergola for a lower advertised price within 30 days of your purchase, we'll match it. Call us at (818) 213-2111 with the details.

What is the best heater for a pergola?

Electric infrared heaters are the best fit for most Los Angeles pergolas. They warm people and surfaces directly instead of heating the air, which matters in an open-air structure. Our Sunkisser infrared heater runs on a standard 110V outlet at 1,500 watts and is $849. It comes in black and fits both the Sunkisser SK1 and the Sunkisser 200.

Should I buy a pergola kit or get professional installation?

Our pergolas ship as complete kits with all hardware included, and most homeowners assemble them with 2 people in 4–6 hours using basic tools. See our Installation Guide. Professional installation makes sense for attached or rooftop installs, uneven ground, or if you'd rather not do it yourself. We can match you with a certified installer.

Do your pergolas come with LED lighting?

LED lighting is available as an optional add-on. Our warm-white LED Light Kit ($499) is sized to your pergola and includes pre-cut strips for each side, quick-connect wiring, a transformer, and a remote control.

Installation & Setup

How long does installation take?

DIY assembly typically takes 4–6 hours with 2 people. Follow our step-by-step Installation Guide, or book a certified installer: professional installs are usually done in 1 day.

Can I install a pergola on my existing deck or patio?

Our pergolas install on a level concrete pad, paver patio, or compacted ground. Concrete is best for the 90 mph wind rating. For decks, roofs, or installs attached to a house wall, call us at (818) 213-2111 before you drill.

What tools are needed for installation?

You'll need: a cordless drill with masonry bits, a ratchet with a 13mm socket, a 4 ft level, a 25 ft tape measure, a 6 ft stepladder, safety glasses and work gloves, and a pencil and chalk. All hardware and fasteners are included with your pergola.

Is professional installation available?

Yes. We can match you with a certified installer in Southern California. Request a free installer quote.

How much does professional installation cost?

Professional installation starts at $25 per square foot. The final price depends on your pergola size and site. Most installs are done in 1 day. Request a free installer quote.

Effortless Maintenance, Lasting Beauty

Can the pergola withstand extreme weather?

Our pergolas are rated for winds up to 90 mph and snow loads up to 31 lbs per square foot. Close the louvers during storms and clear heavy snow.
